Hitler was raised Catholic. That's about as far as it ever went. Later in life, he used this fact to gain support amongst the primarily catholic Germany of the time. However, he was far from "atheist".
He didn't go in for the Judeo-Christian concept of God, and instead, during his establishment of the "Third Reich" Nazi party, which was brought up and nursed by the "back to better days" ideology of the Nationalist movement of German born/descended Austrians, opted for a "traditional" religion which blended 20th century Theosophy ideologies of the "Aryans", "new age" occultism, and old nordic paganism.
At its outset, the NAZI party was funded and generally supported by the "Thule Society", an occult/theosophy society (The irony being, that despite having its start in the mythologies of secret societies, and the occult, Hitler later went on to have a great fear of societies like the Masons, and said that they should be destroyed along with the Jews, gypsies, gays, blacks, cripples, etc.. Talk about forgetting your roots.)
His (as well as the leaders of all of his major military leaders, ESPECIALLY Himmler) dependance on the occult, however carried on throughout the life of the party. He would often completely ignore the advice of his generals and soldiers in the field, and opted instead to consult various mediums, mystics, and fortune tellers...
Eerily starting to sound very Bush...
Anyway... forgotten what the point of this was originally, so, stopping now.
