The chatroom is kinda back, after only eight years of downtime. Or, really, a chatroom is back. And in the same place, of course: http://gremlin.net/chat
It seems to work so far. We got a few people in there yesterday and it didn't break under the stress. I guess we'll find out eventually whether it can break with more people in it. On the bright side, it's separated from the rest of the site, serverwise; so, if something does collapse, it won't affect anything else.
To answer a few Frequently Stupid Questions up front:
1) Yes, you have to register. Kinda like every other chatroom on the 'net.
2) No, you can't be an admin. Fun though it would be to see everyone who's ever hit gremlin.net gagging and booting everyone else, it's not practical. Maybe I'll promote a few of the older regulars into knighthood or something later, if it gets busy enough to need moderators fulltime.
3) No, I have no idea how you'd write a bot for this thing. Not that I'm actually opposed to it, if you can figure it out.
4) No, there's not a link on the sidebar for it yet. I'll get to it. I've got this book thing going on right now.
5) See the little Help link at the bottom before asking anything else. Most of what's available is covered there, nicely distilled to Imbecilese.
