Paroxysm. Finally….

It's done. For the most part. The novel. I'll explain that one real quick....

Essentially, the book is written, and now available at Wasted, Inc. [you'll see it under Paroxysm in the menu on the left, or you can just click on the big cryolophosaur currently monopolising the splashpage] with a single, simple little disclaimer, which goes something like this....

Once upon a time, I announced that I was going to write this book [the same one whose working title was Pandemic for a year or two], began to write it, and didn't get it finished until, well, yesterday. Meanwhile, enough people had been asking daily when the damned thing was going to be finished that, as of the instant it became finished, I went ahead and made it also available.

Here's the trick on that.

While the book is available now, instead of at the end of the month on Hallowe'en [my latest official release date], and generally finished as a story, it's not entirely proofed yet. Meaning that, while I've read through it on the computer in .pdf, watching for typos and other little fuckups, it's entirely possible that I've missed a few [I actually caught one late last night, after making the thing available, in which I managed to confuse the name of the city someone was heading toward, for example; it's fixed now] which, once I've got a printed, bound, physical version of the book [the same sort of thing you'd get for ordering it during this prototype phase], I'll be able to read through it slowly, at a restaurant, without having to stay ahead of the laptop's dismal three-hour batterylife.

I should have the book to go read IRL sometime this week. Probably, sometime this week or early next week, I'll have read it through, caught whatever remains to catch, and updated the book, finally, to the officially finished version, which will officially be available on Hallowe'en.

So. Those who would prefer to wait for two more weeks to get the final version of the thing can do that. Those who just want the damned thing as soon as possible can order it now, and end up with this sort of, like, collectors' version [one thing exclusive to copies ordered before Hallowe'en would be the final paragraph of the Author's Notes, for example; I'll go ahead and copypaste that in, below, in a minute] which might or might not prove somehow special in the long run, I suppose.

Okay. Now that I'm out of the parenthetical, here's that last paragraph, which further explains all this:

Since a lot of people have been waiting a lot of months for this novel to be finished and released [and not necessarily in that order], I’ve decided to go ahead, now that it appears to be pretty well done, on my end, and let it out to play for a while. Granting that various typos, homonymic switches, et cetera might still exist now, as the proverbial ink dries in the word processor, I’m outsourcing the job of catching those little fuckups to You the Reader. In the event that you catch a mistake [or probable mistake, anyway], go ahead and hit the messageboard at gremlin.net and let me know about it. At the end of October 2005, any extant typos [hopefully] having been caught and fixed in the book, I’ll re-release the fixed version, replacing this paragraph with the names [or usernames, if you prefer] of my auxiliary editors; also, for helping out with typocatching, these editors will get a goody >:)

I've got a pretty good idea what sort of goodies I'll give out to the aftermarket editors, but I'll regard it as a surprise for the moment, in case I come up with something better, in the end.

Anyway: that's that--the book's done, and available a little early, if a lot late. Spread the word, so people will stop asking me where in hell it is....
