Technically, all I've really accomplished is to land myself in the Look for Typos and Miss Most of Them Phase, but Lurkers is now done. In fact:

Which of course was a bit painful since, earlier today [maybe literally—I'm not sure whether that was after midnight], I wrote a What's New mentioning that I'd hit 60,000 words in the novel. Typos notwithstanding, the final version is 72,307. Based on where I'd started writing when I woke up, I added 16,002 words across fifty-seven pages in fourteen hours today, finally finishing the book. Toldya I'd have it done this month.
So, I'm a little worn out now.
The supersecret ending, which I'd regarded as an option from Day One, and which I'd settled on and written out back when the book was in its first twenty thousand words or so, seems to work. Hunter'd been reading along as I wrote this thing, so she was able to read fifty-seven pages today, see the ending, and consider it a surprise, but not enough of a shock to wreck the story. It was the last thing she expected me to do, but not precisely something she couldn't believe I'd done. So I guess that works.
Now that the book's done, I'm less concerned about allowing people in August 2009 talk about the new president I arbitrarily chose from the two goofs still currently running. Partly because I dropped in a line about alternate histories in fiction, such as for example if the other guy had won. So, if I'm wrong about the winner, it's because it's, you know, fiction.
So. That's that. Gi'me a day or two to read the thing a dozen times, catch the typos I can find, fix them, and upload it; then it should be available online roughly instantly, and in bookstores by the end of the year.
Then, if everything works out as it's set to work out, next year, as summer approaches again, we'll film the thing in what shouldn't be more than a week or two, and go from there.
More later....
