Tornado

What's New Sunday, 07th June 2009 11.31 pm

That was amusing.

About...hang on...according to twitter.com, about 3 hours ago from web, a tornado formed behind my house. Which Hunter's been complaining about ever since, since she ran out to film it and couldn't get her Mino to work correctly.

At the time, she mentioned that the guy across the street had been out there too, filming it with his phone. So I told her it was covered either way. Her problem, fairly enough, was that she wanted her own footage of the thing. But I've got the next best thing: the guy across the street got me a copy. Supposing you know my stupidly massive evergreen tree from videos I've got, this should kinda indicate that the thing really was right the hell behind the house here:

So, again, that's kinda handled. Albeit narrated by a neighbour. Also cut off when I got outside; there'll be no footage of me; damnit.

By the way: if that gets mangled in Flash, http://gremlin.net/images/avi/tornado.avi is half a gigabyte, but watchable.

There's other footage around here—mostly of the aftermath—which I haven't uploaded [these files are immense before the server converts them to Flash for me]; ten minutes after this was shot, after deciding that hanging out in the wine cellar sounded uncommonly boring, we went out and walked about three miles along the perimeter of the strikezone, filming slaughtered trees and dented cars. The real problem was the hail: the size and ouchiness of golfballs. I had an umbrella [English thing, I guess], but one of those iceballs still got me right in the shoelaces; my metatarsals still hurt a bit, along with every other bone I've ever broken, which is most of them; the six exceptions I can think of are in my ears.

So, anyway: tornado almost hit us. It missed. Because Thor sucks.

Though I might be talking to a claims adjuster about the hail damage to the roof tomorrowish.

More later....
