Well, while the guy has abysmal taste in film...

"The Searchers," "The Sea Hawk," "They Died With Their Boots On"

(Something in the back of my mind tells me he wouldn't get Romero's message in Day of the dead, or even classics like Dr Strangelove and Casablanca)

... and while I definately disagree with statements like...

"At one point in "Phantom Menace," his mother confesses that the boy was conceived without a father. This, of course, causes members of the Jedi counsel to wonder if the child is the Chosen One, the future savior of the galaxy. Some may feel that proclamation (not referred to in this episode) may trivialize the significance of the virgin birth of Christ and his entrance into human form. My suggestion: Parents, if you are allowing your younger children to attend, you should view this film with them. Make sure they understand the difference between the film's 'Force' and the real Force, Jesus Christ."

(Saying watch it with your kids is one thing. Saying that you should make sure your kids understand that anytime a film's fictional concepts differ from your reality, you should compare it directly with your religion and apply any new fictional powers to your religous figure is just asanine)
     ...
There are some points where it's a decent review; as far as the middle of the film goes, it's hard to disagree with...

"Now for the bad news. As I said, there is story and character development (well, somewhat), but most anything the movie has to say is overshadowed by one space battle after another. The action plays out like a very expensive video game."

...although I would have applied that statement to the factory scene, and not the space battles myself. Most of the video games nowadays wouldn't have done as abysmal a job as ILM did with the Slave 1 scenes

Anyway, since I'm leaking enough of my views on the film into these posts, I may as well state my position. I consider myself in the last twenty minutes camp; once the storm troopers were brought out in the midst of the fallen jedi, it stopped feeling like I was watching Days of Thunder or Top Gun, and more like I was watching the political struggles and intrigue that made star wars, well, star wars. In other words, this time around, I don't know exactly how the next movie's going to turn out without seeing it, something I haven't felt since I was five years old and found out that Darth Vader was, in fact, Luke's dad.
