What's New

This is almost amusing. We moved, and went offline for roughly long enough to take a nap. Which was my only real concern at the time.
Then, a few hours after dropping offline at the old place, we were online here, which was difficult to test because, somewhere in the span of hours I couldn't hit any websites, gremlin.net disappeared.
Serverside thing. The entire server went offline. From what I can tell, the machine itself was fine, but the pipeline died out.
Most of the sites are back now. The exceptions are the sites with dotster.com, since they rely on the nameserver and not the IP Address. We're at a different IP now; register.com and ArborDomains.com update quickly [the latter updates in three seconds; I timed it] but dotster.com have to wait to notice that the nameserver has moved. I can't guess how long that will take.
Meanwhile, the FTP server seems to rely on the nameserver too. So I'll write this to the board until I can figure that part out.
On the bright side, going two weeks without writing a What's New gives me a bit of new stuff to mention. Strangely, most of the news regards sites which don't work at the moment, because of the nameserver thing.

Wasted, Inc.
wastedinc.com is currently offline. However, cafepress.com/wastedinc works. And fairly well. I grabbed a few prototypes to make sure they looked okay. There's something a little creepy about outsourcing stuff and not really knowing how things look in the end. The mousepad worked out pretty well [it even has purpose, since Hunter's computer has an optical mouse instead of a trackball] and the poster is impressive [they actually let me format a poster in 16:9; whether you can get a frame for a 16:9 poster thirty-five inches wide is another question]. The clock essentially looks perfect; the only thing is that it's not particularly heavy. If you put it on a wall it's okay; doing much else with it makes it seem a little fragile.
I also got one of the black baseballcaps for EvilCoffeeChick.com for Hunter. I was a bit concerned about those, since I've heard people complain that they were flimsy. They're not. They're basically black denim with a velcro flap in the back to adjust the size...although they're about size seven if you don't adust them, which is fine by me. Not that I'm known for wearing baseballcaps; but it works for hunter. Maybe I can have my fedora back now.
The coffeemugs are really nice. I wasn't sure what to expect from dye on enamel, but they look better than most of the printed coffeemugs I've found in stores IRL. I haven't put one in the dishwasher yet; if there's a problem with that, I'll mention it later.
And, of course, the shirts are good. We already knew that from the Predacious Moments Grimmy shirt Hunter got a year ago. Pretty much what you'd expect for combining an inkjet printer with an airbrush.

Phobivore.
Of course, phobivore.com is offline, and phobovore.com points to it. As far as I can tell, the correct spelling would be phobivore, but there's technically no correct spelling, since it's mixing Greek and Latin. I got both URLs just to avoid problems anyway.
Regarding the comicbook: we're still working on that. There's not a lot of news there.
However. The history on the phobivore is complex. I created the thing in 1986 and started working on the story for it. Then there was SB95 nine years later, which no one has ever read. Mostly because it was too...much. I went way too far with this thing. In a world where daemons and deities are the inventions of men, this story was the closest thing to Evil I've ever seen. I didn't want to be involved with it.
     Hunter had other plans.
She hasn't read the book yet. But she wants to see what's so nasty about it. And now that Stephen King has announced [again] that he's retiring after the final Dark Tower book, she wants someone to replace him. Or something. And she thinks that should be me.
     Okay....
So. The current plan--once my new laptop is done UPSsing its way here--is to read over SB95, maybe update it by seven years, and finally release it. Presuming I don't decide against doing this, Phobivore will be released on 21st September 2003.

Aside from all that, there's not a lot for news. We managed to lose Cope the Varanus indicus for a few hours: she found a way out of her cage and wandered around until I found her on my synth. I'm in the middle of building a new cage for her--a converted speakercase four feet tall. She shouldn't be able to find a way out of that. Probably.
Otherwise, we've been spending about a hundred bucks a day at Suncoast. At this point, I've got about fifty DVDs I haven't had time to watch yet. Partly because we've also been buying videogames. At some point, I'll get round to reviewing them all here. Then I'll write them off.
I guess that's it. More later....
