...no. It was actually a sort of a joke. One day in 1997, I referred to gremlin.net as The Gremlin's Empire [although that quickly dropped to the Gremlin Empire] based mostly on the TMBG song Son of God. And it was natural enough to shorten it further to the GrEmpire. So I did.
     As for Vigo: that was almost a year later, and totally unrelated. The Shadows thing was ThirdParty, of course. Someone [I know the guy; I've forgotten the username he used here] put together the Shadows spoof and I went ahead and used it. That, of course, later switched to The Grempire Strike Back after the BangBang thing.
     Heh. This website has been online for almost six years. Hard to believe sometimes....
