Alright. This is a story. About idiots, and tempermental artists. It starts off with me doing drawings for the "RP-er of the Month" for an online RPG based on the books of dinotopia.. I'm rather late on finishing a particular work, and get told I'd better do it because I promised... I finish the work HERE ,and ask for some words of thanks on the board...
This is what I got:
Comment (given on threat of assault) Well, I'm afraid it doesn't remind me of the creature I asked for much. (Her name was Milan.) And in fact I liked the sketch you showed me better. I think the pose was more accessible and sympathetic. This griffin looks like a seal you might find on a crest or in the corner of a fancy manuscript. The tail is thin and heraldic. the feathers are disappointingly simple and not very realistic. I'm confused by the curves in the middle--surely that's not a pot belly, but what is it? The paw and hands are interesting, but too large. Your use of white space makes the blend between fore and hindbody seamless...although you may recall I asked for a seam. The head is intriguing--I only wish it were more visible. You have done well in your conveyance of action. Anyway, you may feel free to keep this piece for yourself.
To which I replied, very sleepily and angrily (Deciding I'd had enough of this and of his PM's to friends that I was a shitty artist who never got work done:
art Any artwork for RPer of the month has been cancelled./ put on hold until further notice due to college financial situations.
And if Darius makes another smartass comment slandering me or my work I will ban him from this board.
I'm flabbergasted. What are you talking about, Flashbird? The only comment I made was an honest criticism of the piece you showed me. And you asked me for that.
-Darius
again; my reply:
I didn't ask for a critique. A simple "Thankyou" would've done. And I didn't threaten you with assault. :< I said I'd send a scythe-weilding armadillo would get you, which is an obvious impossibility since they dont exist. Ooh. FICTION...
You also hinted in a note to Llelly that I cannot do good artwork and will not deliver (Thoughtfully I deleted this from your post)...
Remember this is Gift Art I was doing. No it won't be perfect, and situations are such: I cannot afford to spend all my time perfecting art that I won't get paid for. Especially for someone ungreatfull, who has no idea of the time and effort such an undertaking takes, nor of the money I loose when I do such a thing! I also rarely do Gift Art of Any Sort.
Hence I do feel insulted when it's insinuated that my art is @#%$, and not worth the paper it was printed on, especially by someone unqualified to make such comments!
Yes, your 'critique' pissed me off. Why?
Well, I *WAS* hoping for a simple thankyou, not this 'critique' as you call it, which wasn't so much of a critique as a rant against myself and the works.
If you want to continue this discussion, continue it here.
Flashbird--you seriously misinterpreted what I said. Your work is fine, but it's now clear to me that your personality sucks. Yes, I remember that this is gift art, and I wouldn't actually have cared much if it was never done, or if you'd told me "Sorry, I don't have the time." I'm offended now.
I didn't rant. I did give a serious critique. I said how the picture differed from what I'd wanted, but I never expected anything like perfection, so it's not a big deal. I didn't feel this piece or any other you've done is "@#%$", or anything like it. Nor did I ever tell Lellywin that you couldn't do good art. I may have suggested that you wouldn't get around to doing a picture for him, which is understandable given that you're a student and, as you say, it takes time and effort to draw things for free. I'm offended also that you felt you had the right to delete something just because it bothered you personally.
It's clear to me now that you were just fishing for compliments. That's perfectly forgiveable. But have the class not to blow up on me, please.
I'm sorry that you're so busy, and I hope for your sake that's the only reason you're being so oversensitive. Bear in mind that the only reason I'm posting this here is that you specifically said to. If you delete it, or even go so far as to ban me from the board, I'll be very disappointed.
and my final reply to it:
Funny that for being the 'better person' you resort to making disparging comments about my personality, and at the same time try to 'make up' for your previous comments.
Now let me reply to your post in sections;

That's a bit of bullshit (Pardon the language kiddies). When we were originally talking about my re-doing the work you brought up "It was a promise" and threatened to make it look like I was less than honorable if I didn't get the work done...

As I've said your critique wasn't that good of a critique point blank.

"If she ever does it" insinuates that I lack the talent and the time to finish the work. As for deleting things and having posts messed with? -That is in the board rules, and has been in them since day one.

Pot Kettle Black, Dar. I said in the begining I only wanted recognition for my effort. NOT a compliment; there's quite a difference.
As for my temper? I never have and never will apologize for what I consider rigeously provoked anger.
And again, you put an insult into the words. "Have the Class". Really...
Or was this supposed to be a veiled compliment as you've insisted of your previous insults?
Quote:Bear in mind that the only reason I'm posting this here is that you specifically said to.
I said "If you wish to continue this conversation post here", not YOU MUST POST HERE. You do have a degree of free will....
So what's the lesson here?
a) Treat your artist Nice. Yes I am oversensative, and quick to bite.
b) Show at least some consideration for the WORK that art is...
c) If you apologize do so truthfully and without taking back your apology by insulting me every other line.
d) If it's free art, consider it a gift, something to be cherished. I don't do it often. If It's a commission- you have hte right to bitch. Otherwise, shut the hell up.
Yes I felt the need to rant.
