...Looks like one of those blasphemous chants designed to bring down eldritch, Lovecraftian horrors from some dark region between blighted galaxies.

Hmm, the great old ones are described as blind, unholy, gibbering idiots with infinite power. Fundies are described as blind, holier than thou, gibbering idiots with massive political influence (at least in the states). Am I the only one seeing a frightening string of coincidences?

Not scared yet? Let me point out another one for you. In the Lovecraftian mythos, the Cthulhu cult is described as a secret cult with members worldwide and untold potential influence on the every day life of almost everyone. The christian cult is a worldwide cult with immense influence on worldly affairs. Granted, it's not quite as secret, but it does has a whole lot of secrets it withholds from the general public.

Need another coincidence? Cthulhu is an alien entity of almost godlike power. He resides, dead, but dreaming in his tomb in R'Lyeh. When the stars are right, and the world has become as the Old Ones themselves, killing and revelling without thought or mercy; he will rise once again and lead the faithful to reclaim the world that was once his. Jesus is a supernatural entity (aka, not of this world, aka extraterrestrial, aka an alien) who is the son of a god (in other words, has godlike powers.) He resided in his tomb at Galilee, and when the world has fallen into sin (killing and revelling without thought or mercy), he will return and reclaim it for his faithful.

One more, just to prove my point. Almost all the above statements relating to the mythos can be found in an ancient arabic book, written around 500 CE by a mad arab. Almost all the above statements relating to christianity can be found in an ancient collection of books from around the Arab area, writted/collected during the first centuries of the CE era, by people who could be considered quite mad, judging by the moral standards found within the books they deemed 'holy'.

Perhaps Lovecraft was onto something, but was too rational to be able to cloak it in a cute, fluffbunny religion called 'christianity', and hence revealed it's true, hideous, multi-tentacled face to those smart enough to draw the connections. He wasn't lying when he said, 'Man lives on an island of ignorance, and it isn't meant that he should journey far.'
