Ironically, hearing 'I'll pray for you' is one of the easiest ways to tell that you're dealing with a false christian. Praying for an atheist is the apotheosis of 'taking the lord's name in vain'.
The vanity issue was never a matter of blathering the name or vocation of a deity without meaning it. The sin is praying for something which the deities decide against granting you. At the end of the year, you have to beg the deities' forgiveness for having the audacity--the vanity--to ask for things they didn't want to give you. And praying for the same things you've already been denied--like praying on the enemy's behalf--is a sin beyond salvation.
Not that you'll ever get that from a christian. The only things they've ever read in the bible are Genesis1.1 and John3.16. They're morons.
