I got some sleep last night, which turned out to be a slight mistake.
The silly reason I thought I could be allowed to sleep last night was that the guys fixing everything had finally [after four days] turned off the water long enough to patch the leaking pipe [so much for the Glacier Excuse I was given on Friday] and fix the problem at hand. Which is to say that they fixed the primary problem. Well enough, they suggested, that I could get some sleep. So I did. Then I awoke.
Now, the leak had moved into, naturally enough, the room into which I'd moved all my stuff to save it from the other leak. So, at 7.39, I called the Emergency Pager, for a change. Which is how I learned that my latest emergency would be dealt with promptly at eight.
At 8.00, I called *911.
So, now, at 9.34, I've got everyone from the cops to the fire marshall to the building inspector to...I've lost track. Lots of guys; lots of badges. The verdict....
What I inadvertantly did here was to pull a guy over for a broken taillight, and then find cocaine in his trunk. This place is dicked.
The boiler and gas mains have been RedTagged by the building inspector; it's amazing, given the number of computers I have in here, that nothing's exploded yet; we've had natural gas leaking from the main, through the boiler, into this place for months.
So: in all probability, this place is being shut down now. Then, by law, the morons running the place are putting us up at the Hilton until everything's fixed--whether or not that involves demolishing the buildings and started over from the ground up.
Anyway: I'm obviously a little busy here. So this is just a quick update, and a slight warning: odds are good that I might be offline for a few days. Be nice to the board until I get back....
