I understood the money = memorial thing, but I also thought he already had a couple of things named after him [like a library and stuff]. I just didn't get why they were leaping so readily on 'change the money! do it! do it now!' when, while most people using cash probably can't even look at a dime or a ten dollar bill and know who they're looking at or why, the faces are probably on them for a reason.
