1 - Yes, Bush largely was reactive, rather than proactive.
2 - Them's what know me will note I have been screaming for us to find multiple ways to decrease AND eliminate our dependence on foreign energy for more than 10 years. It is my opinion that we should handle this Manhattan Project style, with a massive dump of brains and resources in it ASAP.
3 - The Islamic world, once the flower of world progress and civilization, has accomplished jack shit for nigh unto 800 years. Can you imagine the glorious day when we awake to one of these two newspaper headlines: "ARABS EXPERIENCE A PROTESTANT REFORMATION, DECIDE TO JOIN THE REST OF THE WORLD IN ABANDONING MEDIEVAL BULLSHIT" or "ALTERNATIVE FUELS PERFECTED, ARABS TOLD TO GO FUCK THEMSELVES."
We play some ludicrous games with these people because we have been bathing in cheap oil for years. An administration as squarely in the pocket of big oil as the current one will assuredly not alter the situation. However, all other things being equal, why vote for Kerry? He's made no pledge to fix or even work on that extraordinary Bush deficiency. I still think we're better off with Bush and his meager assets than we would be with Kerry and his unknown and unadvertised ones. The only thing Kerry seems to know for sure is that he really wants to be President.
