I'll probably do something like that, though probably not in the novel itself.
At the moment, I'm still debating whether to fully explain the zombiebug in the book. I could just spell the whole thing out from an omniscient here's the deal perspective [bad idea], or let one of the characters conclude a few things based on testing [better idea], or, I could just hint at the zombiebug's actual nature by its symptoms, while letting everyone in the story come up with his own hunch, from germ warfare to extraterrestrial attack to some deity or other unclicking the No Disasters option in SimCity to whatever people might suppose was the answer [potentially the best plan].
As it is, the novel is likely to push the limits on managable pagecounts, though. So adding an extra chapter detailing this disease would probably cause a few problems. On the bright side, there's always Site of the Living Dead, which, aside from its 'real' purpose, will also end up being the 'official' site behind Pandemic...since pandemic.com was registered many, many years ago and I stand little chance of getting my hands on it.
So. I'll explain the zombiebug eventually, one way or the other. For now, I'm actually still working on bits of it--neat and probable symptoms, evolutionary paths, and so on. It's pretty spooky.
Spookier still, I think Hunter's trying to think up a way to build it IRL....
