What's New by Gremlin

Subheroism

I figured out the secret to getting things accomplished: not really giving a damn anymore.
Yes, it's true: in order to get lots and lots of stuff done, all it takes is a little bit of Total Apathy. Then things will magically begin to fall into place.
Individual results may, of course, vary all to hell.
Anyway: I got a lot of stuff done over the last couple of days. Including, since I'm not sure exactly when we're going to have the cartoon ready to upload in its advertised format, a sort of novelisation of the thing. Which is actually kinda cool.
I don't know whether the story is at all cool, since I'm the one who wrote it and I have this general idea that everything I write kinda sucks; on the other hand, I seem to be the only one willing to tell me that--everyone else seems to dig whatever I manage to yarf out onto paper. Or ASCII. Or whatever.
I just work here.
Anyway: I'm writing down the various Subheroes episodes as chapters in a single, series-lengthed book. I'm not sure exactly how long 'series-lengthed' is, since I'm not actually done writing the whole series; but if my calculations are even remotely correct, the novelisation, like the filmscript, works out to something like a page per minute. Plus/minus three or four weeks. I really have writing filmscripts, and a large part of the reason for that is that I really suck at guessing exactly how many seconds are used up at realtime.
Anyway: I'm uploading the first chapter or so of the novelisation now. I haven't quite decided whether to upload the second chapter before the first one is finally made into a real episode yet. I guess I'll wait and see what the demand looks like on that.
I should probably also mention that there's a bit of a backstory to Subheroes, and that part of it can be found at 97D.com.
In other words, yes: I'm tying it all together after all.
There is, of course, the one thing I haven't fully worked out yet. And that's how to write down the third episode as a novel. And the reason for that is a bit of a spoiler. Not that uploading the first episode as a novel isn't a spoiler; but Episode Three is a little different than the others. It kinda defies novelisation. Which kinda sucks since Episode Four is going to build off of Three, just like Three builds off of Two and Two builds off of One which I've just uploaded.
I'll figure it all out later. Or not. Could go either way. We'll just have to wait and see.
There is technically a way to write the third episode as a novel, I suppose; I'm just not sure whether it's going to make much sense in that sort of format. I suppose I'll know more about that once I've tried to write it down that way.
Meanwhile, since I'm far more comfy writing novels than filmscripts, I think I'm going to switch over to this format in general. Which won't really mean much to the audience, but might mean a bit to the people working with me on the cartoon...whoever they are at this point. Personally, since it's a cartoon and the only thing that really matters to most of the people involved is the dialogue, I doubt it'll matter much either way. Whether you're reading 'Wow,' he said, shocked or CHARACTER: [shocked] Wow. should amount to about the same thing. But I might only be assuming that because I have a pretty good idea what these characters are up to with or without a script.
Something else we'll find out when the time comes, I guess.
Which leads us to the next bit. We're officially casting out parts here. Someone's got to supply these voices, or it's going to be a very bland cartoon. There are, in fact, still openings for the first episode, even though most of the characters I've got in the Dramatis Personae [to date] don't appear in it. Which is one of the reasons a lot of them don't appear in it. The less people we have to involve in the first episode, the sooner we can get it the hell finished and uploaded to [hopefully] create some sort of demand for the second one, which might make it a little more appealing to prospective voice actors...or whatever you call people who supply voices for cartoons. People with too much free time, maybe.
Anyway: feel free to read over the novelisation of Episode One and EMail me if you can't live another moment without being the one to bring a given character to life. I'm intentionally neglecting to mention which parts aren't filled yet, because it's entirely possible that someone will want a specific part and prove to be better than whomever I already have in mind. Don't be afraid to ask.
I think that's it for now.
More later....
