Happy birthday to me
...or something.
Yup: it's 21st September again. Stephen King is fifty-five, Bill Murray is fifty-two, Joe Mazzello is nineteen, Ricki Lake is annoying, and HG Wells is dead.
Let's move on....
There are a couple of slight site updates. You may have noticed the little banner exchange thingy up near the top of each page. I'm not sure exactly how much good that does me personally; at a 2:1 ratio, I'm still accumulating credits faster than I'm using them up. But it's something to put there anyway. It also moves the What's News a little further down and makes them look longer. Which is nice since I keep adding things to the sidebars and making the What's News look shorter.
The other thing up there is the mailinglist.
One thing I should mention, for those who know me, is that the mailinglist is not the notorious Mailinglist of Dispair™ you may have heard about in chat.yahoo.com...possibly because you're a troll. I tend to gong people for wasting my time in debates, and then add their EMail addresses to the Mailinglist of Dispair™, which is really just a list of EMail addresses to which I forward all the spam I get every day. The working theory is that most of the trolls in chat.yahoo.com use their username@yahoo.com EMail addresses as their primary EMail addresses because they're not quite bright enough to set anything else up.
Which has nothing to do with this.
This is about the real mailinglist. Not that I've worked out a purpose for it yet. One option is to EMail out text versions of the What's News, I suppose. Or at least notices that there are new What's News online. Or whatever. I never really thought about it before; people who hit the site to discover that there's a mailinglist generally either come back here anyway, or don't want to hear from me anymore. But, for those who fall into some weird, third category, you now have the option of subscribing to something or other.
Maybe if enough people subscribe to it, I'll work out some sort of contest or something. Never know....
This is funny. One of the things I'm nearly working on at the moment is Phobivore. Which is a longish story and which is both a novel I wrote about seven years ago and still haven't decided whether to ever release it, and also a forthcoming comicbook based on the same concept as the novel but in a slightly less revealing way. Which is to say that the novel was pretty graphic and I'm not sure yet whether I want people knowing that I'm capable of thinking some of this shit up.
An even simpler explanation is that the phobivore [that which feeds on fear] is known in the vernacular as the bogeyman, and we're making it the central character in this comicbook.
Which leads to more concerns. Because I'm about the only one who knows what this thing looks like, and I'm not the one doing the artwork here.
So. The guy doing the artwork only knows that the bogeyman is a sort of dead, decaying, reptillian quasihominid. And that's probably not enough to go on. So I just grabbed a random sketchbook, thinking I'd draw this guy up, scan it in, and EMail it off to the artist.
I didn't. Yet.
Instead, I opened the sketchbook and found a bunch of stuff from the spring of 2000 I'd forgotten all about. It was actually stuff I was doing for the original version of Damnitology which, of course, I never ended up using because I scrapped the original book in favour of a better idea a couple of months later.
Still, I've got a number of weird little sketches in here. And I have no immediate purpose for them.
Which would mean something if my scanner were installed. Which it's not. Though it probably will be soonish.
Anyway: I'll get the scanner installed, scan a few things in here, and upload them sometime. Just to be strange. Could be as early as the next What's New. Whenever that might be....
In other news, there are a couple of updates to various grempirial sites. grem.tv has been slightly modified, and SiteoftheLivingDead.com has been reworked, if not actually finished. There may also be a couple of updates on GodHatesBrains.com, depending on how long it's been since you went there last.
Which actually applies to most of the websites to your left.
And just think: one of these decades, I might get one or two of them finished. Tha'd be cool, wouldn't it....
Anyway....
Oh. I suppose there is the one other thing. There should be a new episode of RFD tomorrow at noon. We haven't recorded that yet. We probably should. The actual live feed is here; the show should air at noon on Sunday, DenverTime. Which is six at night ZuluTime. Do the math.
More later....
