Apparently Ridley Scott doesn't look like he'll be directing this one. That's really too bad as he was the one who made the series. In many ways, Alien was his baby and it would be nice to see what direction (or preferably: conclusion) he would take the series in.
On the bright side, the "second chair" director for this film (and apparently the one who is working on it right now) is none other than Aliens director James Cameron.
Considering how well done Aliens was (and considering that it made Cameron a sci fi director phenom), I can't say that I'm disappointed that he's helming the 5th installment.
Assuming that Titanic fame hasn't corrupted his directing and creative style (something worth questioning considering how cliched Dark Angel's series premiere was), we can probably look forward to some fairly well rounded characters and more introspective looks into the lives of both Lt.Ellen Ripley and the Xenomorph.
Sigourney Weaver is also interested in reprising her role, though she said it would be her last installment (something, I believe, we've heard before for 3 and Resurrection).
Considering that our choices for Alien V directors, not only both have an Alien movie under their belt, but are also responsible for giving us the most successful installments in the series; I'd say that the 5th movie has a good chance of being one of the best.
Then again, I might just be getting my hopes up.
