Actually, it isn't confirmed that Ridley Scott won't direct it. He just happens to have two other movies coming up, which he'd have to finish before starting Alien 5. Cameron is involved, but no one's sure how. I'm hoping as a writer (which also goes with my hope that they ditch the already written script, explained further below). It would be interesting to see Scott's quiet, progressive style of movies in how it would play out with Cameron's constant action.

There are two choices for the plot:
A) Picking up where Alien: Ressurection left off, and having the movie take place on earth. This script has already been written.
B) Do a story that takes place on the planet that the Xenomorphs originated from. This is something that Sigourney Weaver proposed a year or two ago when she first showed interest in another Alien movie.

Choice B seems to be the most likely choice, considering that Weaver hates the first one. As do all Alien fans, considering how cheesy and predictable it is.
