     Hmm, I don't remember them having forked tails either. I do remember only one tail though.

As for pristichampsids, they were a family of eusuchian crocodilians that came about in the Eocene. In my opinion they were the coolest species of crocodilians we know about. They were terrestrial hunters built for high speed chases and possibly pursuit hunting. Their front legs ended in hooves. They were the top predators in their environment and were probably direct competitors with phorusrhacid birds like Titanis walleri. That these two are constantly found in the same environments together, indicates that they had some kind of relationship going with each other.

As cool as they were, they seem to continually get overlooked by paleo-artists. The only good reconstruction of them I've seen was done by Robert Bakker. See page 74 of Dinosaur Heresies for a rough picture of them.
