It's completely unnecessary, though. Attacking your opponent in such a way only stains the reputation of other Athiests, and gives the christian world more feelings of superiority. Attacking your opponent in a debate as open as Athiesm VS Christianity only makes your argument look flawed, and that you have to resort to personal attacks to win. However, once it gets to a certain level, it's necessary to damage their overly-inflated egos and get them to simply shut the fuck up....
