With all info on Deadache that Gremlin's been posting recently, I got inspired to come up with some favourite survival horror quotes (spoken and written).

RE3 (realistically: 2 1/2) is a favourite in this arena.

One scene in particular, comes to mind:

It's at the tail end of playing Carlos. One sees the bombs placed in the hospital and quickly runs out.

Then we get the cut-scene of the hospital exploding.

Afterwards, when it returns to gameplay again, turn around and go back to the rubble that is now the hospital. Press the investigate button and one should get:

"There was a hospital here once. It's gone now."

If it doesn't work, then try it with Jill. I know one of them says it.

While I usually regard Silent Hill as being more genuinely scary than funny, there is this one scene that always makes me bust a gut.

Harry and Cybil are in the antique store. Harry pushes the dresser out of the way to reveal the secret tunnel.

Both Cybil and Harry look at the tunnel. Cybil then prepares to go in. Harry stops her:

Harry: "Wait, I should go first"

Cybil: "But, I'm a cop."

Harry: "It's too dangerous"

At which point Harry goes through, and Cybil doesn't pistol whip his arrogant ass.

Let's see, are there anymore that I can come up with right now?

Oh, there is one.

Okay, so normally one could say that anything from the original Resident Evil counts as being funny, but there is one scene that truly stands out. One scene that is the epitome of fantacrap.

No, Barry didn't say it.

When Chris/Jill first meets up with an envenomated Richard Aiken. This man they got to voice him has to be the absolute worst voice actor in the history of voice actors. Even the kids from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" did better than this guy.

Some Richard quotes:

"This house is...dangerous!"

"Itīs filled with....terrible demons"

And the funniest line in the game:

*said very deadpan* "Ouutch"

Okay, admittedly these last lines are only funny when one hears them, but man are they ever funny.

Resident Evil: the king of videogame "camp."

A side note for survival horror fans. If one hasn't tried it yet, Clocktower 3 is pretty decent survival horror. The game's short as all hell and there are times where the chases can get more annoying than scary. With that said though, they do take a fresh angle to the subgenre. When the badguys attack, all one can do is run and hide from them until they go away (at least until the end of the levels when one gets to turn the tables on them). It's also the only british survival horror game out there (i.e. it features british characters, locales and voices. Still made in Japan though).

Besides all that, one gets to be chased by serial killers throughout London, and relive gruesome murders from the past. One can't go wrong with that combination.
