Congress Readies for Action on President's Plan
for Health Care and Prescription Drug Choices

President Bush has made health care a top priority and has urged Congress to act now. In response Congress is working to take action on the President's $400 billion plan to help with the high cost of prescription drugs and improve access to quality health care. When the President announced his plan he reiterated his commitment to keeping the promises of Medicare for all saying, "We can, and we must, improve Medicare, and protect our seniors from runaway health care costs."
Okay. First and foremost: I am not a senior. By the time I am a senior, medicare will replace social security as just another tax, and social security itself will no longer exist as something that gives people like me money. In the interim, I have acess to unlimited health care, thanks to a moment of idiocy in which I entered the armed services. But, we'll pretend I care for just a moment.
So, you care about health care, huh?
     Stem. Cells.
Let me just size everything up for you.
August 16, 2001 MELBOURNE, Australia -- Researchers have successfully harvested stem cells from mouse brains, a breakthrough which could reduce the need to use human embryos for this purpose.
September 9, 2002 USA In a move to appease those who support the idea, and those who believe creating human embryonic stem cells for research is wrong, Bush decided funding would only support research on a small number of existing cell lines held by only a few labs.

Now, stem cell research is at virtual standstill, critics say. Researchers complain they can't get the cells they need because supplies are so scarce.
CNN spoke with several stem cell researchers who said they've tried, but for various legal and scientific reasons, can't get their hands on the cells from the 11 labs that are approved sources.

Dr. Curt Civin, editor of the journal "Stem Cells" and a pediatric cancer specialist, wants stem cells to rebuild bone marrow for young cancer patients.

"Certainly in our lab we haven't been able to get going, even on studying the embryonic stem cells, because we can't get our hands on them," says Civin.

But, hey, look on the bright side. He wants to make sure we have 400 billion dollars worth of geriactric medicine.
President Bush's plan focuses the health care debate on delivering quality health care and making sure that government invests in benefits for seniors, including prescription drugs, modern treatments to prevent disease, and protection from high out-of-pocket costs that threaten to rob seniors of their savings.

President Calls Peace in the Middle East "Highest Priority"
Oh, this'll win me over. Lemme call ODU right now and cancel all my classes.
President Bush is concluding a successful trip to meet with European and Middle East leaders -earning broad praise for his "road map" for peace and making progress in bringing peace to the Middle East.
Yeah, he's every bit the master of diplomacy Clinton was. He'll just get them to stop shooting eachother, and then everyone can have ice cream.
The President brought the Israeli and Palestinian Prime Ministers together in an historic meeting and earned what Secretary of State, Colin Powell, the current president's employee, called "important and powerful" Important and powerful, huh? Well, that's great. Even the president of the US can sometimes be important and powerful, on a good day. Good on him.statements of commitment to ending terror by the Palestinian Prime Minister.

Speaking to Middle East leaders and the world the President said, "Each of us is here because we understand that all people have the right to live in peace. We believe that with hard work and good faith and courage it is possible to bring peace to the Middle East. And today we mark important progress toward that goal."

Examples of How Some Working Families Win
     With President Bush's Tax Relief
I need a moment to gather the wife and kids for this one. Okay, done.
Thanks to President Bush's Jobs and Growth law working families will see more money in their paychecks starting this July. We won't say how much more; it's not like we're in the nineties and can just raise the minimum wage because we haven't been using tax cuts to cover our ass. Here are a few examples of how some working families win:
A married couple with two children earning $40,000 will see their taxes go down $1,133 (from $1,178 to $45) - a 96% tax cut.

A married couple with one child with $40,000 in income will see a tax cut of $732, or 33% of their total tax burden.

A family of four with income of $60,000 will save $900, a 24% tax cut.

A senior couple with $40,000 in income - including $2,000 from dividends and $15,000 from Social Security - will save $255, a 27% tax cut.

A single guy in the military below the poverty line attending college on tuition assistance will save $0, and possibly have to kill people.

The Verdict Is In: President's Tax Relief Right Plan to Create Jobs
Oh, this is rich. I'm putting in my two weeks notice and heading over to McDonalds. Wait, no, wal-mart. That's where everyone's working today
"The tax bill does a great deal for low-income families even without the refundable child credit addition. It expands the 10% income tax bracket, meaning that workers can earn more before leaping into the 15% and 25% brackets."
-- June 3, 2003, Wall Street Journal Editorial
"But the purpose of the legislation is, as suggested by its name -- the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 -- to stimulate the economy, not expand government hand-outs... already showing signs of working. The stock market jumped 180 points..." Take a look at this http://search.cnn.com/cnn/search?source=cnn&invocationType=search%2Ftop&query=stock%20market really quickly. The stock market increased because everyone else's market failed. I mean everyone's. Even germany's. And, of course, it's a small jump after a three year slump, in a system that's basically cyclical anyway.
     -- June 3, 2003, Detroit News Editorial
"President Bush's $350 billion tax package will have an immediate impact for many middle-income families, especially those that reside right here in Manitowoc County." So get them to vote for you.
-- June 2, 2003, Manitowoc Herald Times Reporter Editorial
"If you work and pay taxes, you've got some 'new' money coming your way. With the tax cut package signed by President George W. Bush last week, most of you who claim a child credit on your income tax return will be getting a $400 check from the government this summer..."
     -- June 2, 2003, Macon Telegraph Editorial
"But it's the tax cuts that will offer the real benefit to the U.S. economy. President Bush understands what John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan knew well during their White House tenures: The only way government can help an economy is to remove less money from that economy."
     -- May 29, 2003, Dunn Record Editorial
