I've pretty well decided that, while ResZero and DeadAim are technologically superior, Veronica is probably the most interesting game to date. Which may change soonish, if ResFour is half as good as CapCom are currently making it out to be.

IGNCube had a roundtable discussion on this (well it was on Nintendo in general, but the first 5, or so pages are devoted to Re4), including what we can hope to expect from this next outing. The "over the shoulder" shooting mechanic looks to be very promising. Hopefully Capcom puts in true analog control for the shooting. I'm tired of my exploding head shots being determined by the luck of the draw.

Speaking of which, Capcom has finally set a firm (sorta) release date for RE4. It should be "Winter 2004."

Also, I picked up and played through BloodRayne a few days ago. I put that one off for a while, simply because something about vampiric secret agents hunting nazis in the 1930s sounded oddly, um...retarded. Having now played the game...I wasn't precisely wrong to assume that. It's not a terrible game, all things considered--insofar as all things considered include Yar's Revenge; it's just not something I'm in any hurry to go back through again. Let's just say that it didn't kill me to spend twenty bucks on it; spending fifty on it when it came out would have upset me a bit.

Heh yeah, that was exactly my feelings behind the game too. It's a fun little outing (especially when one takes a moment to savour the carnage left over from killing a room full of Nazis with one's blood rage on), but it reeks of marketing decisions and focus groups. Add in Rayne's little gestures at the end of the game, coupled with the sounds she makes when sucking blood (sounds like someone being overzealous with a juice box), and the title winds up feeling a bit sophomoric.

It is a fun little romp. Just don't forget to leave one's brain at the door while playing. Bloodrayne 2 should, hopefully, prove to be a lot better (the story certainly sounds more interesting).

Oh, since we're in a survival horror kick anyway (excluding Bloodrayne), I might as well mention this for anyone who might have missed it. Konami official unveiled their next Silent Hill installment: Silent Hill 4: The Room. The game promises to be as dark and twisted as all the previous ones. The premise, this time, seems to be about a guy locked away in a room where his insanity starts to open up portals to Silent Hill. I'm not entirely sure what to think of the enemy designs this time though. The things that peel off the walls are cool, but I'm not too sure of the floating zombies.

I suppose you could try to put that in Pandemic, but other than being filled with helium, I'm not sure how one could make it very plausible.

Maybe zombies with jetpacks? It could certainly make for some fun shooting scenarios.
