Yeah. It's nowhere near as bad as JestBuy, but still annoying. So, the other day we wander in to look at laptops. Mostly it's out of kid-in-toystore sentiment, but we do anyway, just in case there's something we can afford. Holy shit. There is. It was a floor model, we were told. Don't ask me what the goddamn specs are. I just know it plays games and things. Obviously, Mr. COJ thought it was a good deal, because he slammed down that mothafuckin' credit card. It was $570, down from godknowswhat. The H key was actually had fallen off, so we got $60 MORE off. The salesguy assured us that if anything went wrong with it, it was under the 12 month warranty dealie from Toshiba because it was new...but of course, there's nothing wrong with it. We've checked, etc. So, being happy with the deal we had gotten on what is basically going to be used as a word processor for school (it was a little cooler than that, I understand, but nothing huge), we bailed. We got it home, and it looked a little bumped around, but no big deal. So, of course, something was wrong with it. The battery didn't work. We were assured the battery worked. It was in fact *charged*, said the salesguy. This rendered the laptop essentially useless, as we *HAVE* a computer that does word processing that plugs into the wall already. So, after calling the salesguy back to say, essentially, WTF, and being sufficiently blown off by said salesguy (there's nothing I can do for you. you can call toshiba, register the laptop, and get the warranty or you can bring it back if you want. It's not in my best interest to screw you because I don't want that thing back...those aren't exact quotes, but that last one was very heavily implied), Mr. COJ called Toshiba. After talking to the Toshiba guy, we learn that the computer is not, in fact, new. It has been bought, registered, and returned. There *is* no warranty honored on this piece anymore. Someone else used it. Great. So, Mr. COJ calls the store manager of CircuitShitty. After hearing the story, he sounds pissed. So, after some negotiation, we get a new, more expensive laptop (albeit a floor model...but we're broke college students, so why do we give a fuck?). This one is actually faster and more or less better than our PC, I'm told. The screen is bigger. But....
     yes,
     a but.
The thing doesn't produce any sound from the speakers. And the headphone jack is fucked. Mr. COJ suspects that the soundcard is broken. He also found pictures and a spreadsheet that are not part of the original programming. Did someone else have this one, too? We'll find out when he calls Toshiba tomorrow.
It's not that any of this is a HUGE MASSIVE deal, but it's still annoying. And, after hearing the stories about Gremlin sending his laptop out to get fixed, I'm seriously afraid of what will happen if we send ours out. I don't want to have to get crazy on some bitches!!
Ugh. Sorry. Just wanted to vent.
     Word.
