I don't know what it is about RadioShack. As long as you know what you're doing [and realise that anyone working at RadioShack is clueless on all levels], you can build anything you like from the stuff they have. Soundboard, broadcasting tower, fusion reactor...name it.
Oddly, the stuff they sell preassembled is junk. Same parts, I think. But...here's a good example. I grabbed a patchlink to connect my StarTac to headphones, MiniDisc, laptop, and whatever; it was about thirty bucks and didn't involve actually building anything. Somehow, they made this thing out of a new type of plastic with a negative atomic weight: the whole of the device actually weighs less than the sum of its parts.
It works. And, since I'll spend fifty bucks on a videogame just to find out whether I like it, I'm not concerned about it. It's just strange.
As for customer service...if the manager of the RadioShack at the mall tries to talk me into buying the new Motorola one more time...; this is the same phone I already got, hated, and got rid of; he refuses to A) get that, and B) remember that I already told him I didn't want the fucking thing the last time I was in there...just before lunch.
I don't think these guys are going to last much longer. Their brandname makes Emerson look like PhillipsMagnavox, their employees are morons, and--anymore--their prices and inStock stuff are destroyed by any given thousand online stores.
