As for the analogue aiming, that's good news and bad. I didn't mind the aiming setup for DeadAim, provided I was using a GunCon2; the rest of the time...it wasn't a lot of fun using a basic PS2 controller; people get dead that way in a hurry.

Yeah, my sister could relate many a profanity laden horror story involving Hitman 2 on the PS2, and her attempts to aim with the analogue stick.

Thankfully the analogue sensitivity on the GameCube controllers are far better than the PS2s, so this will, hopefully, not be a problem.

Framing Res4 into 16*9 is good news. I assume it's anamorphic, with blackbars on 4*3s, instead of mashed like Vise City tends to be. Now I just wonder about the cutscenes. Are those matted down to 64*27 [2.35:1] to differentiate them, or will we have to pay more attention than usual? And if you're really wondering how much attention that can take, try playing an older Res game on a widescreened television, on Zoom1. It's amazing what gets hidden in the top and bottom of the screen when you can't see it.

Yeah, RE4 will have true 16:9 widescreen, which is good. As for differences in the custscenes, I'm not sure. It could help. There were times when playing the Resident Evil remake, where I would just stand there doing nothing because I thought a cut scene was taking place. I remember dying a lot in Fear Effect for the exact same reason.

Based on the history, I have some doubts that Capcom are setting up a new tangent, per se. Based on what's already happened, they're probably using this game to start a new storyline, and then ResX will attempt to bridge the Umbrella zombies to whatever this thing is about, once they've had a year or two to think about it.

You're not too far off. A few days ago, Capcom released an official statement in regards to the story.

In Resident Evil 4 players are reacquainted with Leon S. Kennedy, Raccoon City Police Department's idealistic rookie cop from Resident Evil 2. It has been six years since the destruction of Raccoon City and in that time, the U.S. government has been able to destroy the nefarious Umbrella Corporation. Fast forward to 2004 and players rejoin Leon, who is now a U.S. agent with a top-secret mission. He has been tasked to look into the abduction of the President's daughter and his investigation has led him to a mysterious location in Europe. As Leon encounters unimaginable horrors, he must find out who or what is behind everything.

This will definitely be the latest Resident Evil. Prior to this it was Code Veronica, which took place a mere 3 months after the events in RE2. It's actually kind of amazing to look back at all the Resident Evil games and realize how many of them were/are different takes on the exact same story.

Anyway, I find it doubtful that a company as powerful as Umbrella would be taken down in only 6 years by the U.S. government. Especially since Umbrella was probably selling its B.O.W. tech to the government anyway. I wouldn't be surprised to find an Umbrella twist somewhere in RE4.

That, or we find it was actually the nefarious sister company: Parasol.
